Best Intro Book I've Seen

I have most of Mr Emery's books including this book and think highly of them. They actually teach you what you need to know.
As for the fellow that gave the book one star, he must simply be lost in how to approach learning the guitar. Some people need a human in the room to learn. That's fine, but many of us do not and these books are a very inexpensive guide. I would suggest you look at the reviews of all of Mr Emery's other books. 5 stars across the board.
I've been playing guitar for over 15 years now and wish I'd started out with these books, especially the three on music theory.
Having these 20 years ago would have made the process so much easier, but I have them now and am grateful for them.
Not only are his music theory and guitar for beginners books excellent, his books for bass guitar, mandolin, and ukulele are fabulous too.
I've spent hours fumbling with these instruments until Mr. Emery removed the scales from my eyes. For the price of a single private 30 minute lesson, I have a whole course in each instrument. He's even answered some questions for me about his books. Most include free online audio files so you can listen to them too.
There would be a lot fewer instruments in closets if these books were sold along with the instruments!

Bruce Emery brings to his teaching a great sense of humor as well as a thorough understanding of music and of the guitar. His book is not only like having a teacher in the room, it's like having a funny, engaging teacher in the room.
