The best there is

I own the 1960 edition, and after reading lots of books on the occult, I always turn to this one at the end if something is unclear. This is the best there is, even if it's old.

Not the first of its Kind, But still Finger Licking Good!

This book is not the first of its kind. It is in a large way very much like and some parts are even in part a translation of the J.A. S. Collin De Plancy's Dictionnaire des Sciences Occultes, (which was created in two volumes in 1848). A lot of the entries are eerily similar and have the same subject matter with few differences. Although I must admit its easier to read Spences' version if you are not familiar with French and if you could find a viable copy of De Plancy's work. Between the two you can get a massive amount of information concerning the subject. Some entries are more extended in one version than the other.

Out of date, but stil contains some excelent material.

Apparently published in 1920 or thereabouts, this very large volume contains a wealth of material. Lewis Spence was a prolific author and many of his books on Atlantis and various mythological traditions can still be obtained quite cheaply. Spnce was a contemporary of Crowley and th Golden Dawn and so this book contains no information on them. It is also hampered by Spence's limited knowledge and understanding of foreign cultures and their history. Spence was a product of his time, and so are his boks.
Nevertheless I keep finding myself coming back to this book. It has many excelent biographies of prominent occultists such as Cagliostro and Paracelsus, some running to 3 or 4 pages. Some major subjects, such as Astrology and Alchemy are also covered in lengthy sections. There are also many illustrations of varying quality. Also sometimes reprinted as "The Encyclopedia of the Occult", there are many very affordable editions available.
Definitely recommended.

Good book

I just graduated with a degree in chemistry. During my senior year of my undergraduate career I took advanced organic in which we covered drug development and drug discovery. I was looking to continue learning about the different drug types , such as antibiotics etc., and this book was a great find. This book discusses drug action in the body, ie the blood stream, for you to see how the drug travels through the body and how they disperse as well. Also, every different type of drug is addressed in this book, which is what I was looking for. I am still in the process of reading the book but it has been great as far as expanding my knowledge of different drugs, how they are metabolized (with out all the gory biochem), and will help me to see what topic to cover next in my search for drug knowledge and understanding.

Some of it did not make since. When David had aisllen, he twisted her neck and broke her vertebrae,seems to me she wood have landed in the hospital for awhile but what do I know.

Aislinn Campbell has done her best to keep from becoming too attached to anyone. Running from her ex has her moving from place to place after several months but for the first time she is unable to remain detached from the people around her. To complicate matters even further, she's falling for her boss and has witnessed his death in a clairvoyant vision.

Ex-Special Forces operative and owner of Turner Industries, Kyle Turner III, knows everything there is to know about Aislinn. He's had her carefully investigated and he's perfectly aware that she never stays in one place for more than eight months because of her abusive ex. She's been his personal assistant for the past six months and he'd desperately like to get to know her on more `intimate' terms. An anonymous email warning him that somebody would kill him in a kitchen gives him just the advantage he needs.

Kyle's been very thorough in finding out all about Aislinn to the point that he even knows about her clairvoyant abilities. Kyle's decided that it's time to show Aislinn that the passion brewing between them is too powerful to ignore. Aislinn tries to deny him - and herself. She even turns down dinner with him, until he uses his ace in the hole and mentions that if she doesn't go out to eat with him then he'll have to go home and eat in his `lonely kitchen.' He has no doubts that the warning email came from Aislinn and isn't above using it to his advantage. It's obvious Aislinn is as attracted to him as he is to her but her fears about her ex are keeping her from even considering any sort of permanent relationship. Kyle's positive he can protect her . . . all he has to do is prove it to her. Simple right? Well, maybe not quite as simple as you'd think.

Annmarie McKenna's TWO SIGHTED will delight readers with the fun array of characters, witty conversations, sexual innuendos, and enough suspense to keep you riveted to the pages. I loved the intensity of the relationship between Kyle and Aislinn. And I got a kick out of her friend Christina and Kyle's `groupies' as she refers to them, Jon and JT, playful banter and sexual interest among the three of them. Ms. McKenna does a wonderful job blending emotional situations into the plot so that you genuinely care about what happens with each character and never want the story to end. Fortunately, Ms. McKenna does treat us to Christina, Jon and JT's story in her follow up book - THE STRENGTH OF THREE - which is currently available.

But when she takes a job at Turner Industries, staying isolated proves impossible as she finds herself irresistibly drawn to her employer, Kyle Turner III. Still, she avoids becoming involved with him past their working relationship - that is, until her clairvoyant abilities show her a fatal vision involving Kyle!

Kyle knows all about Aislinn's past, in minute detail. Being ex-Special Forces and in the security industry, it is his business to know everything about the people close to him - especially pretty little personal assistants who distract him like no other woman can. He has no intention of letting Aislinn run again, not when he can protect her from her past and keep her close to him, where she belongs...

I do not think Annmarie McKenna can do wrong with a story. I have loved every piece of her work I have read so far! Two Sighted was a pleasure both to read and to write a review for. It is books like this that make my job simple, and I wish they could all be this good.

Kyle Turner III pushed every button I have, proving that this author knows just what women love in their heroes. In fact, if you could place orders for men that would exactly suit your needs, I would want McKenna's help placing the order since she seems to know what I want better than I do myself! Kyle is the epitome of the overprotective Alpha male who pursues the woman he loves with an unwavering focus and a sensitivity that belies his `he-man' status.

Aislinn's fear and loneliness are palpable as she longs for those simple human comforts long denied her - a best friend, a phone call with her mother, a man to fall in love with, a home that is hers for longer than 8 months. Yet even in her determination to remain detached, we see that she can't help but care about those around her. While her abusive ex-husband may have stolen her sense of belonging, her hopes for a future, he hasn't robbed her of her empathy. While it might be easy to be jealous of the woman who captures the attentions of the hunky Kyle, no one could begrudge Aislinn for stealing his heart.

I was impressed with Annmarie McKenna's very first novel, Blackmailed, and my admiration for her work grows with each new release. In Two Sighted, she effortlessly sets the stage for a sequel starring several of the supporting leaving her fans aching for it without leaving this book feeling unfinished in any way. I know I will be hungrily snapping up any new releases both in this series and from this author!

Nathaniel was cold but seething, I could see the tension on his pale, pointed face. I couldn't entirely blame him - instead of a new bride, he had public humiliation and me.

I spread my hands, attempting sincerity. "I understand you're upset, Harcourt, but - "

"But?" he mocked me, drawing out the word.

"But Lizzie will be back soon." I didn't add, Not that you deserve her.

Nathaniel inclined his head, despite still looking dubious. "And until then, you'll be attending to the women's duties."

I choked. "Which women's duties?"

Nathaniel flashed his teeth in a grin. "Pour me an evening drink, to begin with. You found the kitchen?"

I turned to go. "Yes." I left him without another word, biting back the venom I wanted to spit at him. Prick, the utter prick. Still, Nathaniel had leverage over me, as long as Elizabeth was missing. I would humor him until her return, but no longer.

At bedtime, he beckoned me up a winding staircase. "You'll be staying in the guest bedroom."

That suited me just fine. But rather than showing me to the guest room, Nathaniel led me to the master bedroom - presumably his own. "But first, you'll assist me in undressing for the night."

Women's work, right. Servants' work, more like. I swallowed the rest of my mead in a rush before setting the glass down just a bit too heavily on the dresser. "Surely you could manage on your own."

In response, Nathaniel undid the top of the ribbon on his tunic and then raised his chin, giving me an expectant look. My punishment, as though I'd let Lizzie run away and my father negotiate this absurd arrangement. I stepped behind Nathaniel, reaching around his slim figure to undo the ribbon in the reflection of the full length mirror before him. Likewise, he watched me in the mirror, a slight smirk playing at his lips. Bastard.

His tunic slipped from his shoulders, and I pulled it off him entirely, then cursorily pulled his undershirt over his head. His chest was narrow, hairless, and his skin was testament that he had never seen real work. My hand dipped lower, to undo the top of his breeches, and he arched his hips subtly into my touch. Relishing the power he had over me, if only temporarily.

But, in spite of myself, I watched his body move in the mirror, arching and twisting to assist me in undressing him. I pushed his breeches farther down his slender hips, my gaze lingering on the codpiece that rose in a swell between his legs. As my fingers grazed his warm skin beneath his breeches, I felt myself getting hot.

While I appreciate the historical nature of this story, there is little pay off in the end. It was erotic and frustrating in a good, sexual way...but it doesn't pay off enough.

Pressure Point Fighting 101: The Professor Gots An Attitude Problem

This book has some very useful information. Vince Morris is very opinionated, and the attacks on old school karate (where he knows a great deal) and Kung fu (probably not so much there) are largely gratuitous. It is often amusing to see someone compelled to trash the very thing they are offering in order to sell the "new, improved" version. For example he carefully explains that meridian theory and pressure points are all superstitious hogwash, then proceeds to praise their effectiveness as striking points. His grasp of anatomy is basic, but many points do not correspond with readily identifiable anatomical target structures, eg nerve plexi, joints, sinuses.
To be fair, it seems as though the author has spent a reasonable effort to evaluate the effect of these strikes and test them in the real world. But, the leg kicking points he advocates as being so disabling are questionable. As evidence, in MMA bouts it is possible to see multiple full power kicks to some of these points which are of limited utility . Attacking the joint would be produce much more effective results in a real-world attack scenario.
This is a good introductory book on the "pressure point" aspect of fighting, filtered through what one assumes to be the inner teachings of Japanese or okinawan karate systems. Like many useful print sources on the oriental arts it has about 10% absolutely fabulous information, and the rest to varying degrees less so. I found his prejudices offencive, but that's the view of one little man. As someone with a broad background in the arts, I found the book mainly cooroborated what I have learned over the years. I am looking forward to researching this further. Meanwhile, since there are few books on this topic I can state that the book is a useful, if annoying, introduction to a little-presented but valuable topic.

Interesting Defensive Techniques

Close quarter hand to hand combat requires all sorts of tricks and techniques for survival. This book looks at targeting the opponent's weak points that can incapacitate in a fight. For the average Joe, not really viable option. Some of us can barely pull a gun out with the sudden shock of life or death.

This book outlines basic facts and theories which leads to further exploration. No book will ever give a complete picture. But this is a guide to base further research and learning on. It is up to the person to extract and learn on their own. Had to look at the other Pressure Point books to combine what was presented here to fill in the giant puzzle of martial Arts. Would like to see an advanced version of this.

Enjoying the series

This is one of the better self-published series I've read on Amazon. Character development is proceeding nicely. Story line is well developed. There are a number of grammatical and spelling errors. It could do with more editing.

While enjoyable to read, the books are poorly type-set and have not been proof-read. There are multiple misspellings, typographical errors, double words and even whole words or sentences missing.

Good price - must read for fans of spellmonger series

Contains number of stories in the Spellmonger series at a very attractive price. "The River Mists of Talry", "Victory Soup", "The Spellmonger's Wedding", "The Wizard of Birchroot Bridge" "The Secret of Westwood Hall" "The Road to Sevendor" and
"The Iron Ring". These stories were not all up to the base series quality, but the author did not try and extract extra money for an anthology of short stories which have mostly (not all) been published elsewhere. This forbearance is rare and should be rewarded. For the price, this is a great anthology.

If you liked the Spellmonger series these are must read stories. They fill in many holes on motivations and how the characters got where they are in the novels.

This anthology is probably a four star as a stand alone collection but easily slips into five stars because of the pricing and the linkage to a great series.
