Christian Madsbjerg is a founder of ReD Associates and the Director of its New York office. ReD is a strategy consulting company based in the human sciences and employs anthropologists, sociologists, art historians, and philosophers. Three years after Sophie Honeywell dumped Thomas Gordon right before he planned to propose, Sophie is bequeathed the house of his widowed aunt Connie on tiny Scribbly Island, site of the Munro baby mystery, just off the coast of Sydney. Thomas is the grandson of that baby, named Enigma after she was found in 1932 by sisters Connie and Rose Doughty, who raised her after her parents abruptly disappeared and turned the mystery into a profitable tourist attraction. Sophie, who at 39 hears the ticking of her biological clock getting louder, is delighted with the house, despite some family opposition to her inheriting it, and intrigued by Connie's matchmaking from beyond the grave. Moriarty has created a cast of appealing characters that she deftly juggles through various plot threads, notably Sophie's languishing love life and the mystery itself, previously revealed only to family members when they turned 40, ultimately revealed to all. With its unhappy childhoods, postpartum depression, and planned suicide, this is less frothy than the author's chick-lit debut Three Wishes (2004) but just as brisk and witty. Michele Leber

Oh how I wish there were twenty more books by author, Liane Moriarty

Once I read 'What Alice Forgot', I immediately purchased this, as well as every book by Ms. Moriarty. Her character development, her humor, her story-telling skills are the best I have come across in a very long time. I consumed each book, one right after the other, dreading reaching the end, yet unable to stop. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Not bad but not nearly as enjoyable as her other books

I think Liane Moriarty is a great author and I love her other books, but I was disappointed by this one. I still enjoyed reading it (hence the 3 stars), but it didn't captivate me the way her other books did.

The characters in this story lacked dimension and there were too many of them! I usually enjoy stories that are told from multiple points-of-view, but there were entirely too many characters in this story to keep track of. I actually had to draw a family tree of the characters so that I could keep them straight.

Because there were so many of them, none of them seemed all that interesting or sympathetic and I didn't really care about their fate, with the exception of one or two. In addition to the lack of multi-dimensional characters, the mystery isn't much of a mystery... it's pretty obvious from the beginning that the sisters had more to do with the disappearances than they let on, and the author alludes to this early on. The story behind the disappearance actually ends up being quite interesting, but you don't read about until the last few pages. The majority of the book is spent describing random events in a group of irritating characters' lives.

I still think LM is a great author, and her style of writing is easy and entertaining to read, so I don't regret buying this book. I didn't think her writing was quite as sharp in this book as in her others, but there were still enough moments where her wit and insight shone through to make it an enjoyable read.

In conclusion:
-If you LOVE Liane Moriarty and have read all her other books, go ahead and read this one because it's not a bad way to pass a few afternoons.
-If you were unsure about her other books, don't bother with this one. You'll be upset you wasted your money so move on to a different author!
-If you have never read one of her books, I highly suggest you do, but don't start with this one because it's by far the weakest.

An Australian Gem!

This is the perfect beach read for those luxurious hot summer days when doing nothing is acceptable and welcomed. The indelible Sophie and her accidental family take you on a wild ride though the ups and downs of a not-so-simple life. Each character becomes tangible as if you could almost pinch grandma Rose's cheeks! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is my own personal hope for Sophie and Callum. Liane has done it again, a true page turner. Grab an ice tea and enjoy the read :)

About the Author
Philip J. Adler taught college courses in world history to undergraduates for almost thirty years prior to his recent retirement. Dr. Adler earned his Ph.D. at the University of Vienna following military service overseas in the 1950s. His dissertation was on the activity of the South Slav emigres during World War I, and his academic specialty was the modern history of Eastern Europe and the Austro-Hungarian empire. His research has been supported by Fulbright and the National Endowment for the Humanities grants. Adler has published widely in the historical journals of the U.S. and German-speaking Europe. He is currently professor emeritus at East Carolina University, where he spent most of his teaching career.

Randall L. Pouwels earned his B.A. in history at the University of Wisconsin and his Ph.D. in history at UCLA. His Ph.D. dissertation was on the history of Islam in East Africa. His book, HORN AND CRESCENT: CULTURAL CHANGE AND TRADITIONAL ISLAM ON THE EAST AFRICAN COAST, 800-1900 (Cambridge, 1987), has become a standard work in African history. THE HISTORY OF ISLAM IN AFRICA (Athens, Oxford, and Cape Town, 2000) was jointly edited with Nehemia Levtzion of Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Widely praised in reviews, it was selected by Choice as an Outstanding Academic Title for 2001 and was made a selection of the History Book Club. In addition, he has written numerous articles and reviews on East African history, the history of Islam in Africa, and historical methodologies. His other research interests include the history of the Middle East, the Indian Ocean, and the history and archaeology of Native Americans. Over the years, his work has been supported by grants and fellowships from Fulbright-Hays, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Social Studies Research Council, the National Geographic Society, and the American Philosophical Society. He has taught African history for over twenty years at LaTrobe University in Melbourne, Australia, and at UCLA. He has been the Professor of African and Middle Eastern History at the University of Central Arkansas since 1984.

Good book, good class, terrible teacher

Normally, I am really fascinated with World History, and this book did have some fascinating chapters. It really was the one thing keeping me awake and alive during my history class when I had a dinosaur for a teacher and I couldn't understand anything he said. I made it through the class because I basically read this book from start to finish. So this book helped guide me through it, even when the teacher was super boring.

Fast Deliverly. Good condition.

My textbook arrived within three days of purchasing it! Very happy about that! My only complaint was there were a few coffee stains on the first three pages, and the front cover's bottom left hand corner was bent which is really no big deal because all of the important pages are not damaged.

About the Author

Spencer A. Rathus received his PhD from the University at Albany. He is on the faculty at The College of New Jersey. His areas of interest include psychological assessment, cognitive behavior therapy, and deviant behavior. He is the originator of the Rathus Assertiveness Schedule, which has become a Citation Classic. He has authored several books, including Psychology: concepts and Connections; PSYCH, HDEV, CDEV, Essentials of Psychology, and Childhood and Adolescence: Voyages in Development. He co-authored Making the Most of College with Lois Fichner-Rathus; AIDS: What Every Student Needs To Know with Susan Boughn; and Behavior Therapy, Psychology and the Challenges of Life, Your Health and Health in the New Millennium with Jeffrey S. Nevid. His professional activities include service on the American Psychological Association Task Force on Diversity Issues at the Precollege and Undergraduate Levels of Education in Psychology, and on the Advisory Panel, American Psychological Association, Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) Task Force on Undergraduate Psychology Major Competencies.

Jeffrey S. Nevid is Professor of Psychology at St. John's University in New York, where he directs the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervises doctoral students in clinical practicum work. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University at Albany and was a staff psychologist at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York. He later completed a National Institute of Mental Health Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Mental Health Evaluation Research at Northwestern University. He holds a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology, is a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology, and has served on the editorial boards of several journals and as Associate Editor of the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. His publications have appeared his in such journals as Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Journal of Occupational Medicine, Behavior Therapy, American Journal of Community Psychology, Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, Journal of Clinical Psychology, Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, Teaching of Psychology, American Journal of Health Promotion , and Psychology and Psychotherapy.

Dr. Nevid is also author of the book, Choices: Sex in the Age of STDs and the introductory psychology text, Psychology: Concepts and Applications, as well as several other college texts in the fields of psychology and health that he coauthored with Spencer A. Rathus. Dr. Nevid has also been involved in conducting a program of pedagogical research focusing on helping students become more effective learners.

Lois Fichner-Rathus is Professor of Art in the Art Department of The College of New Jersey, where she has also chaired the Program in Gender Studies. She holds a combined undergraduate degree in fine arts and art history, an M.A. from the Williams College Graduate Program in the History of Art, and a Ph.D. in the History, Theory, and Criticism of Art from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her areas of specialization include feminist art history and criticism, contemporary art, and modern art and architecture. She has authored several textbooks, including Understanding Art and Foundations of Art and Design. She has also published articles in professional journals and exhibited her large-format photographic prints.

About the Author

Turuvekere Subrahmanya Shanmukha Dikshith, PhD, was responsible for the establishment of the Pesticide Toxicology Laboratory at Industrial Toxicology Research Centre, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India, Lucknow, India. He was director of the Toxicology Research Laboratory, VIMTA Labs Ltd., Hyderabad, India. He also worked as a consultant, Pharmacology Division, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad, India. Dr. Dikshith served on the committees and expert panels constituted by different ministries of the Government of India. As an expert committee member, he also served the Central Insecticides Board (CIB), Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, India. He is a member of the World Health Organization Task Group on Environmental Health Criteria Documents and the International Program on Chemical Safety. Dr. Dikshith is the technical specialist for Standards Australia Quality Assurance Services (SAQAS), Australia, and Lloyd Register Quality Assurance Ltd. (LRQA), London, for the quality management of the laboratory and good laboratory practice. He is also the recipient of the Chandra Kanta Dandiya prize in pharmacology.

As a fellow of the World Health Organization, Dr. Dikshith has worked at the Institute of Comparative and Human Toxicology, Albany Medical College, Albany, New York, and also at the International Center of Environmental Safety, Holloman, New Mexico. He has worked in several laboratories in France, Germany, and Canada. Dr. Dikshith has edited Toxicology of Pesticides in Animals published by CRC Press, Boca Raton, Florida, and has authored a book chapter published by Plenum Press, New York. He has also authored several other books, including Safety Evaluation of Environmental Chemicals published by New Age International Publishers, India; Industrial Guide to Chemical and Drug Safety published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Hoboken, New Jersey; and Safe Use of Chemicals: A Practical Guide and Handbook of Chemicals and Safety published by CRC Press, Boca Raton, Florida.

Great simple strategies for drawing nearer God and enjoying our time with Him while being obedient Christians.

This book changed my life by improving my private time with God. Everything form studying the Word to praying to walking our talk. A straight-forward guide that is easy to understand, and a pleasure to read. I think this should be on every Christian's book shelf - not to collect dust, but to be read again and again! I've given it to several friends who have expressed a desire to be improve their spiritual disciplines or to be more devoted to their prayer or meditation time. This book breaks it down and it just works! I went from a feeling of overwhelm to a feeling of peace, just by spending time in this book each day followed by putting his suggestions into action.

I have been very blessed by this book. MacDonald's insight always met practicality, in a way that I could apply almost every page to my life. I only gave 4 stars, as he presents an biblical portrayal of the Sabbath. Our loving Creator, God, chose the day and the frequency of our rest, knowing from the beginning of time that it was the ideal. Indeed, God created the seventh day Sabbath for all man to keep their private world in order by staying directly rested in Him. Jesus says, that He will give us peace and rest, Matthew 11:28-29, and John 14:27. Take faith in that, and be sure to rest as God instructed, and your private world will experience more order and peace than ever before.

Awesome and life transforming

Pastor Rick Renner, wonderful author and teacher of God's Word said this book was a must read. I trust him, so i ordered it. He was once again so correct. This book should be a requirement for everyone who calls themself a follower of Christ. Ordering Your Personal, innerself is so critical to living a life that will fulfill not only all our own expectations but the expectations God intends for His children. Paul Deitel, CEO and Chief Technical Officer of Deitel & Associates, Inc., has over 35 years of experience in computing. He is a graduate of MIT, where he studied Information Technology. Definitely a good book to get started with programming

Content of the book is okay, not the biggest fan of Pearson. Definitely a good book to get started with programming. The book however did arrive ripped and pages folded over from Amazon, dissatisfied with that.
