Good book but missing info!!!!!!!

This is a great ref book for Jewelry Companies that are long gone, their marks and company background. However it is missing some well known companies from the 50's and 60's but to it's credit there are also marks that ARE included that belong to little known companies. The layout could be improved as sometimes companies marked with a logo, and not the name, finding the logo means you have to search the whole book if you don't know who it was made by. That being said the book is a must have for all jewelry collectors as the info contained within is NOT the opinion of the author, it is taken from actual historical books, and vintage Trade guides etc.

Each piece is staged as a dialogue between two classical figures, a presentation which emphasizes that myth is a forum for existential drama--free will vs. destiny, e.g.--and a tool to confront the tragic. Of the players here, only Oedipus, glimpsed when he is ignorant of his identity, dares to say, "For me in my life, there is nothing ambiguous or wasted." Wiser speakers, like Prometheus, know that "man is pity and terror. Nothing else." Although Pavese presumes the reader's fluency in the works of Homer, Hesiod and the Greek tragedians, those unfamiliar with the classics will nonetheless profit from his lucidity and be persuaded when a satyr here argues that the "future lives of mortals will be modeled upon the imaginative shape they give to their terror." This lissome translation was first published in 1965.

It is a shame that this beautiful series of dialogues between mythological figures is out of print. William Arrowsmith's translation of Pavese's masterpiece is beautiful, allowing the stark and seductive explorations of the human condition to glow with a Nietzschean intensity. Not to be missed.

Must read for game developers or enthusiasts

I am only halfway through this book and I love it already! This guide could benefit anyone at any stage of their career in game development. There are some typos here and there, but it in no way diminishes the content. The author was very thoughtful and thorough, going step by step in the process of game development from the conception of a new game idea to its iteration with all of the important things in between. I especially appreciate the level of detail provided for storyline development, character development, and game features such as punishment and reward (common features used today versus lesser used alternatives for a fresher approach). I recommend this book to anyone interested in game development as a hobby or a career, or for those who just have a personal interest in the creative process of game making.

Great for Video Game Writing!

I have been flipping through and referencing this book ever since I got it! The author does a great job of explaining the roles in a game development team and then dives head first into writing a game.

He gives few examples but confidently explains the basic steps on video game writing. When I started on my project I had a basic idea of how the story would go, this book changed everything! He gives great brainstorming ideas, methods of organizing thoughts, what to write about, what not to write about, how to convey information to the player, and much much more!

Wonderful book! A must buy for your library!!

Excellent Material

This book provides a wonderful median for experienced screenwriters and brand new ones who are neither experienced in game or film writing. The writing is neither trivial, nor over the head of the reader. More importantly, the material and examples inside are more recent. Most books I have gone over include films and events from older generations where the younger readers may not know about them or understand the full effects. Regardless if you are young or old, new or experienced, this book takes your position into account for writing the story to your game. It also includes the numerous other factors that are essential for making this game a reality, such as presenting the story to companies for creation.

About the Author
Ryan Cleckner served as a special operations sniper team leader with the U.S. Army's elite 1st Ranger Bn. on multiple combat deployments. Ryan is a graduate of the premier Special Operations Target Interdiction Course (SOTIC), among other military training courses, and has taught snipers and police sharpshooters from around the world. Ryan has a series of online instructional videos known for their ability to explain complex topics in a simple and digestible way. Ryan is currently a firearms industry professional and an attorney.

Recommend, especially for beginning shooters

A Well written, layman's language and portable, so as to bring with you to the range as Handbook / Reference. Recommend, especially for beginning shooters. Also checkout Mr. Cleckner's Instructional Shooting Videos on YOUTUBE, the B-E-S-T!!!

The best handbook in existence.

The Long Range Shooting Handbook gives a clear-cut, no B.S approach and explanation to the fundamentals of long range shooting. The amount I've learned from this book almost equals the volume of information contained therein.

It's reassuring to know as you read that Ryan is a man of experience unparalleled by other sources of information on this subject. As he mentions, his methods may start internet flame wars, but then, what do they really know? In this book, you won't find any useless, exclusive, sophisticated methods, but, rather, the straight truths and ways of the rifleman's art. Ryan learned this art in an occupation where his life and others' depended on the outcome. He is without question a master in this field.

Another thing to note is that many books on this subject which are introductory level, which the Long Range Shooting Handbook is meant to be, spend the whole book saying, "In (book, course, etc.) you will learn...," wasting space with useless photos, or bragging of the author's achievements. In reading Cleckner's book, you will forget it is even intended as a "beginners guide to precision rifle shooting." The cover should read, "An extremely comprehensive handbook guide to long range shooting." And yet it still remains accessible to the beginner.

With such a huge success in a beginners handbook, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming sequel.

You won't find a more comprehensive and valuable guide to the subject of long range shooting in layman's terms anywhere. Period. If you consider yourself proficient in rifle shooting, do yourself a favor and buy this book. You'll find important concepts you had no idea of explained in a way you will understand and easily be able to apply and take your shooting skills to the next level.

Another plus for Ryan is that, while he recommends products, he doesn't spam, and only recommends tools of genuine usefulness. I've read some books that felt more like a catalog. None of that here!

I could go on forever, but, I've got shooting to do. The Long Range Shooting Handbook will be the absolute best purchase decision you've made for you shooting gear bag in quite some time. You won't regret it, and you won't be able to put it down.

It's definitely a beneficial book for those who are starting out or considering getting into long range shooting. Being a long range shooter myself and having the knowledge and experience that Ryan has written about, I can say that he has given clarity and detail, so that, even the novice shooter can become effective at distances well past the standard 100yrd. shot. The pic is a 3 shot group out of a factory Savage LRP .260 at 1250yrds., that I made, using the same info that Ryan has given in his book. Aim small, hit small. Be safe!

The Book for Modern Steam

The is the ultimate book on steam locomotives, for modern times. The author D. Wardate, upgraded 2 locomotives while working with the SAR (South African Railroad). He gives a detailed describtion of the problems he faced, and a very detailed technical look the the problems. Later on in the book he covers the ACE project, and work in China.

He also has an understanding, of the broader picture. He describes the diesel locomotives advantage of modularity, the ability to uses multiple diesel locomotives together easily.

This is a technical book, it is not a book for beginner's. It certainly helps if you read some articles about modern steam before tackling this book. He doesn't take the beginner threw what a Lamprex exhaust does, in simply terms. This is heavy duty technical. He doesn't water anything down.

I went to school for mechanical engineering, many years ago, and I found it very dry.

On the plus side he workede on these steam engines first hand, and really knows the problems, and actually implemented solutions. The locomotives he refurbished set important milestones, and showed what actually could be done.

This is an excellent book, but it's not easy !!!

Another scrumptious mystery!

Jenn McKinlay's cupcake bakery mysteries are as delicious as the yummy cupcake recipes in the back of the books! Vanilla Beaned is no exception! McKinlay serves up hold-on-to-your seat mysteries with cups-full of humor and romance! Who's breaking up? Who's getting married? I'll never tell! This latest mystery is set in Las Vegas, and along with the regular cast of characters we've learned to love, she throws in a dash of showgirls and a soupçon of Elvis impersonators, just to keep us entertained! Look for another "I didn't see that coming" ending, and you'll be ready to devour the whole series, if you haven't already!

This series never gets old

Melanie Cooper is struggling with franchising her “baby,” the Fairy Tale Cupcakes Bakery. She’s kind of a control freak anyway, and the first franchisee is a former Las Vegas showgirl, so Melanie is worried about the stability and success of the franchise. Mel and her bffs and partners, Angie DeLaura and Tate Harper, travel to Las Vegas to meet with the franchisee. Things go downhill quickly when the suggested location gets blown up and someone drives a car into the second location. Mel takes a shine to the showgirl and does her best trying to figure out who’s trying to take them out of the cupcake game.

Book no. 8 in this series is just as good as the previous seven. The plot is interesting, the relationships between the characters continue to grow, the dialogue is witty (love the game Mel, Angie and Tate play with movie quotes), the setting is well-described, there’s a nice touch of romance for several of the characters, and I can just smell the cupcakes baking. Even the secondary characters are fully-drawn and entertaining.

Reading this series is like hanging out with old friends. Each mystery builds upon the previous one, so I recommend reading them in order to increase enjoyment. I look forward to the continued adventures of Mel, Angie, and Tate. This is a series I will want to re-read.

Disappointed

This author writes mysteries very well,That captivate the reader, this one anyway. However, the setting changed from the bakery to Vegas. Was it a variation on a theme or something else but for me, it just didn't work. Part of the mystery and drama is the interaction of all the characters, family included, and that was missing.

I struggled to continue reading at several points but always finish what I start. I'll just consider this an aberration in this series and look forward to the next installment to have the cliffhanger resolved.
