About the Author
Debra Atkinson is the founder of Voice for Fitness, LLC. She first began her career in the fitness industry in 1984, and, since that time, has led thousands of fitness classes, conducted thousands of personal training sessions, managed group-fitness classes, and supervised over 200,000 personal training sessions as director of programming. She served as a senior lecturer in kinesiology at Iowa State University, where she taught 14 years. She has also been a private wellness coach for over 18 years. She uses the science of fitness, together with the art of exercise psychology, to create programs that work.
Over her 30-year career, Debra has:

Been a subject matter expert for the American Council on Exercise (ACE)
Presented for IDEA Health & Fitness Association, Can-Fit-Pro, National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), and the International Council on Active Aging
Written over 250 articles for various organizations, including IDEA and NSCA
Served as the captain for the Live Healthy Iowa Dream Team, as well as speaker and challenge administrator for the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women
Spoken to thousands of audiences about the art and science of finding their fit

In addition to her experience in fitness, coaching, writing, and speaking, Debra takes the time to walk the talk. She is a five-time Ironman starter, a four-time finisher in that challenging event, and a barely boomer that can connect with an audience of one or 1000.
She has the dual blessings of calling Iowa home and living in Boulder, Colorado. Her son, Dustin, is a business major and member of the men's golf team at the University of Northern Iowa.

A fun while thorough discussion of latest research on 50 year old & over (that's me) women's health & fitness issues. Appreciate the simple worksheets to personalize a plan for me. Good advice to keep me active and more fit. Add happier.

This is a good read, written "down to earth" style. You can read it beginning to end, or jump around, picking the topics that interest you most as to where you are in age and in exercise habits. And if you aren't one that has been exercising regularly, it's good to know where to start, and what to expect and not expect. It's very informative, and the author is very knowledgeable in her research and presentation. I have exercised off and on all my adult life, getting very serious about it in my 50's. Now that I'm in my 60's it is good to know that what use to work FOR me, may in fact be working AGAINST me now. It's good to know the do's and don'ts of my exercise routine, and what to switch up so that as I age I know that what I am doing is all good. I recommend this to anyone in their 50's and beyond whether they are just beginning to exercise and eat healthy now, or have been doing so for years and want to make sure they are not setting themselves up for injuries or health issues that can and do show up later in life.

This book is excellent and Debra is an awesome coach!!! She does personal coaching and she has exercise videos also. She is very very knowledgeable about the latest research and what is absolutely the most effective way to get fit. I feel very safe following her advice because I trust her immensely.
